A review of Wolf, the 1994 computer game, written for wolves.
The review is also available in English for those of us who didn't take Lupine in high school.
Wolf and its sequel Lion are both preserved on the Internet Archive. (They don't seem to work with the Archive's in-browser emulation system, so you may have to find your own way to play them.)

I'm 90% certain I played this game at a museum when I was a kid.

The recent Shelter game feels very similar.

I played this and Lion a lot in my early teens and I don't think I ever managed to win a single scenario, I just starved every time. Very depressing. Now I am tempted to try once more...

Man, Fizz, that Shelter game looks simultaneously cool as hell and super depressing. Evidently, your lynx cubs can wander off and get lost, starve, or be taken by wolves. (Awooo.)
I’m sorely tempted to play it, but for the fear I’d be a blubbering mess when the little ones met an untimely end.
In the Farming Simulator thread, you linked to Banished, which looks beautiful and I may end up buying it. Fundamentally, it sounds like a very similar game to these, only where the animal trying to survive is human. Sadly, it’s possible for your family to starve in that game, too. :(

Banished is a great game. It’s not very troubling to me to lose the town to famine or disease. I couldn’t lose a simulated lynx cub though. I am not hardened enough for that.
