I'm betting the vast majority of these photos are from game farms or otherwise feature captive animals. It's really unlikely the photographer is stalking the Serengeti when a Leopard rolled up to cuddle.

I expect the bear one involved rescue or trained bears, because I'm pretty sure anyone accompanying someone on a photoshoot of wild bears would be more worried and less photo-taking. But most of the rest, probably not. Foxes and meerkats are tremendously curious creatures, and at least in the case of the meerkats photos are usually being taken of the meerkats of the Kalahari Project, who are very calm and chill about humans after being studied for a quarter-century. Penguins love waddling up to humans to check out what is going on, there aren't any land predators in the Antarctic so they aren't particularly wary.

Is that a scrub jay? I'd never seen any of these before moving to Oregon, but they're wonderful. My wife and I love their call so much. They sound exactly like what an interrobang must sound like.
I would be delighted to have one on my head!

And having done a reverse image search, yup, trained bears. However, in the case of the cheetahs (I think that is the one you are referring to as leopards), in one case it's Stu Porter with a totally wild cheetah cub, and in the other case it's Chris Du Plessis with a cheetah named Mtombi who is an ex-rescue, who now lives wild but likes to hang with humans when she's not hunting.

Cheetahs live in the same place as baboons- our very sometimes violent primate cousins. Experience and co evolution has taught the cheetah not to be bothered when a baboon comes and tries to be intimidating to a cheetah. You sometimes see a few baboons poking and prodding at a cheetah in nature docs and the cheetah won’t fight back it’ll just be as non-threatening as possible so as not to incite the entire potentially 100+ group of baboons to come over and ruin the cheetah’s day. We’re social primates too, so cheetahs are just sort of unbothered by people sometimes. I like to think they think of us as very large hairless baboons.

Tangential: Can anyone tell me what's going on with the whole "I don't have a Soundcloud but..." thing on Twitter? I've been seeing it a lot, and I get that it's a way of introducing a request for support on one crowdfunding platform or another, but I assume it's an in-joke or a reference to some specific thing that happened, and I haven't been able to figure out what.

Somewhere in a box we have a photo my dad took of my mom taking a photo of a cheetah when we lived in the Serengeti back in the 1970s (my dad was a field biologist). The cheetah in question had, I believe, been taken as a cub by a local lodge that raised it there for the benefit of the tourist trade, and was habituated. If I remember correctly (I was 5 at the time, give me a break), the wildlife photographers George and Lory Frame took it and worked with it until it could be released in the wild, but they'd go visit its range occasionally and bring a couple of chickens for it to eat if they ran across it.
When we went with the Frames to see it, my parents got to go fairly close to the cheetah to take photos but as I was small and prey-sized, I got to sit on top of the Land Rover with the chicken cages during the encounter.

When someone who doesn't have a large following tweets something that blows up and gets a ton of retweets, they will sometimes use their newfound fame to promote a personal project, often music related. So "I don't have a Soundcloud but..." has come to mean "I didn't expect to get all this attention and I don't have anything traditional to promote but..."
