Ah, so they've seen our local furniture store ads, then.

That one cat, the one digging at the window with amazing speed? He's great. (Hey, it's a low-key kind of comment for a low-key kind of post. Like, meow.)

We got our cats on a two-for-one deal from our local Humane Society. They're a mom and daughter and since the daughter was the last kitten of the litter to be adopted, they threw mom in for free.

He's got a bit of Michele Bachmann going on with the camera.
In fact, I bet she'd be great at peddling kitties in Winnipeg.
And wouldn't that be a win/win.

Life would be so much better fir man and cat alike if everyone had half the sense of humor these guys do.

Love how he's not looking at the camera ... And it only makes it funnier.

Dad tells me this was the deal when I came home from the hospital, too. It worked out pretty well.

According to the reddit thread, the announcer is descended from a long line of furniture salesmen who've been using this style of pitch for years. Example 1, Example 2.

That needs to go on the Price Is Right thread as well.

I liked the part with the kitties. Great fun, thanks for finding it, Mary.

As for the redittor's claim that his dad started this genre? Well that seems unlikely, as this pitch style has been used in pretty much every market on the continent from the earliest days of broadcasting.

As someone who grew up in Winnipeg, I found this hilarious. The cadence of the "C'MOOON DOWN!" is, apparently, still deeply ingrained somewhere in my brain, causing Proustian flashbacks to winter nights watching "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

I love the fine print at the bottom near the end: "Many offers promoted by Andy Hill have not been approved by the WHS."

That pitch style may well have been used elsewhere, but that ad is a direct reference/homage/spoof of the Kern-Hill Furniture Co-op ads. Such a great bit, and perfectly targeted at the Winnipeg audience.
I want a six-pack of cats now.

"Girl cats, boy cats, used to be boy cats..."

Heee. This is a great ad and Andy Hill is a great person for helping put it together.

Cats, at least where I'm from, are very hard to home and I had to stop volunteering at the shelter when I noticed that every week I'd go to the cattery and there'd be a whole new lineup of cats. So, good on the WHS for an ad focused on cats.

I remember when the current fellow starting appearing in commercials alongside his father... then eventually the father left entirely.

He was really quite awkward at first, but over the years he has improved a lot.
