http://www.taleban.com keeps looping back to our own machines at work. At home, it comes up non-existant yet it's showed up in my server logs. network solutions has a listing for it. Anyone else getting bizarre results with this domain?

My guess is they surpassed their bandwidth and their host changed their DNS to a loopback address.

They were being hacked.

They were up the other day...front page was the generally typical hax0r writing with anti-Taleban and ben laden sentiment by some Russian "haX0r."

I think the hack was present from before the attack though.

And now they are...

Their DNS server resolves the domain to 127.0.0.1 (localhost). Besides, wouldn't it be taliban.com, not taleban.com?

And here's a cached copy of the hacked page.

There were multiple hacks, I believe. The cached one is not the same one that was up yesterday.

I think the way it's spelled is different depending on where you are. In the US, I always see it spelled 'Taliban'. But if I go to the BBC site, it's spelled 'Taleban'.

Hello?!?! Anyone notice that two things REALLY stand out?

1) The site is registered to Abdul Hackeem Mujahib...ahem...HACKEEM. Hack them? Get it?
2) It's spelled Taliban. NOT Taleban. I'm willing to bet that if this was their site they would probably spell it correctly and if it was hacked they would've taken it down or fixed it over the past 3 days.

This is a hoax or an attempt at a lame joke. Please stop spreading this lame site around.

1) Hakeem is a common Arab name -- it means "wise" in Arabic. There is no reason it couldn't be spelled "Hackeem," for the reasons given below.

2) As has already been pointed out, "taleban" is the spelling commonly used in the UK. The word is transliterated from another alphabet, thus the Latin spelling of it is somewhat variable. This is the same reason "Khadaffi" is also seen spelled Qadaffy or Ghadaffi, and why they started calling Peking "Beijing" some years ago.

In Afghanistan the most common language is Dari, which is essentially the same language as Farsi, the language spoken in Iraq. This language is written using an Arabic alphabet. A second major language spoken in Afghanistan is Pashtu. (More info on Afghanistan's languages here.)
