Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
Beware of the dark side, anger...fear...aggression...

What a stupid poll. Like human beings only feel ONE emotion at a time.

I'm shocked to hear you say that rushmc. Perhaps in a half hour I'll be dismayed. Maybe a couple hours after that, understanding.

For those of you who are angry - who are you angry at? What will make it stop?

The next person who quotes Star Wars in this context is going to be beaten with a sackful of quarters. What am I angry at? Trivialization.

all of the above, for sure. I can't believe they expected us to pick only one. I've been cycling through them all.
The Star Wars thing made me think of Lance's Star Wars "UnScene" - the first laugh I've had in three days. :(

the words 'i stand corrected' has popped up more than usual here on mefi. while people are angry and obstinate on the surface, there's also more of a willingness to hear than usual, and we are actually less obstinate about our perception of the world.
yes, if we allow ourselves to wallow in anger, we can be misled into destructive blind rage, but right now, it's bringing the best out of us in that we are all contemplating the issue and not blaze/ for a change.

Feeling anger and wallowing in it are not necessarily the same.

When I visited the poll, the numbers stacked up interestingly:
177737 Shocked
177730 Saddened
And then the other 50% of the pie was angry. I took a screenshot; to me it really was an accurate representation of how the country is feeling.

right, it's totally different. it's only when you hold on to anger, when anger is an end in and of itself (wallowing) that it's bad. it's too soon to say if the country will in fact wallow in anger, but right now people shouldn't feel guilty about feeling angry and injured; we need to let it out so we don't hang on to it. hurting other people/ being destructive in rage is another matter.
