Big Butts

This post was deleted for the following reason: we sort of have to draw the line at every single thought-provoking AskReddit winding up here. -- jessamyn

In linking to a online discussion with the same topic, what is the danger of our actually replicating the exact comments in said discussion in THIS online discussion??
Because my first thought when I read your topic question was: When a girl walks in with an itty-bitty waist and a round thing in your face you get vital evolutionary information that acts as a fairly accurate indicator of overall health.
Which, ironically is nearly (with the addition an off color reference to a penis) EXACTLY what the first response was in that other discussion about this very same question.
Which leads me to wonder about why we're even having THIS online discussion, unless it is some sort of competition with the other site, in which case I want to know what the prize is...
Also, is it a double if the original is on reddit instead of meddit?

From an evolutionary standpoint, big butts are for those who seek a mate who can easily deliver their child. Skinny girls are preferred by those who seek a mate who is not already pregnant with another man's child.

The fun part is, my non-biologist understanding is that the science behind this stuff (i.e. a biological/genetic basis for human sexual preferences) is at the level of plausible conjecture: you can't really set up an experiment to determine WHY people like big butts.

The real story is how Sir Mix-a-Lot used the money from the single to start a classic/flashy car rental business for video shoots and such. I like sensible long-term financial planning and investment in one's career and I cannot lie

I got a PhD in evolutionary biology, and we refer to these kinds of things as "just-so stories."
