It's not even Halloween yet and this video makes me sick of Thanksgiving.

That was pretty great. Although the deflating turkey was kind of gross. Also, was was Pink Shirt Guy eating out of a paper roll at the table?

Yeah, I got tired of playing THE SIMS after awhile, too.

Fake. The smoke detectors never went off and no one spilled red wine on the carpet.

Pink Shirt Guy is, I believe, the video creator.

Not enough booze, crying, yelling, gossip and cold shoulders to be a real Thanksgiving.

I am disappointed that there was no televised football.

I don't understand how that was Thanksgiving. There's sunshine and people aren't wearing multiple layers of thick, heavy clothing. Neat video though.

I don't think they should be driving like that with kids in the car.

Loved this. Thanksgiving is the only holiday I will not ever, ever miss, as long as my family are gathering in the huge old lineal house in Sylvania that stands empty for three hundred and sixty-two days a year, waiting for that perfect intersection of close and distant cousins, aunts, uncles, and the people we're no longer even clear on how we're related to, with tables scattered through the house, a kitchen crammed with people, and stories—oh my, the stories.
Every job I've had, I've made it clear up front. I will not work the week of, will not work the day after, will not come in for an emergency, will not come in for a special event. In fact, I will not attend your wedding, your funeral, the birth of your child, or skip it to give you a live-giving transfusion. I'll happily skip Christmas, Easter, my birthday, the 4th of July, and even (reluctantly) Halloween, but Thanksgiving is sacred.
I've written about the trip, a good thirteen hundred mile round trip, and made a little abstract video about it last year, and will wax romantic about Route 301 at length and without reservation, but I leave the days there, ensconced in that swiftly fading Southern comfort, to my own daydreams for the most part. You'd have to be there to understand, and I'd have to love you a lot before I'll share.
This year, I'm leaving the Friday of the prior week, and I'm going to put the top down, buckle dog #1 in securely (dog #2 is afraid to travel and is staying with the ex-in-laws), make the leisurely, oft interrupted journey, and relax, spending a week on a porch in a small Georgia town with my typewriter, just watching the world going by until it's time for me to start baking for the feast.
One of the best things about the democritization of media is that so many of these really cherished, amazing, but ultimately unmarketable and personal, visual moments can emerge and circulate. Fortunately for us, Metafilter can separate the wheat from the chaff.
Love it, love it, love it.

Oh shit, I got mixed up! I was saving it for the appropriate holiday, and I thought it was Thanksgiving here in a couple of days. *facepalm*

The kids are going to be so disappointed by the handfuls of stuffing they get from your house.

The fast-paced meal at the adults' table looked wrong - wait, you're supposed to slow down and chat and enjoy Thanksgiving dinner!
The fast-paced meal at the kids' table just looked like dinner at a kids' table.

That was pretty sweet. I like seeing all the kids at the kids table socializing. That is one of my fondest memories growing up. Also to see them all playing games afterwards. Very nice. <3
