Want a role in the new Joss Whedon movie? How much are you willing to pay for it? The director is auctioning a walk-on role in his new film In Your Eyes, to benefit the Adrienne Shelly Foundation.

This reminds me of how Margaret Atwood has auctioned off character naming rights (for charity) in a couple of her books, most recently The Year of the Flood. I have no problem with it, but I've always considered it a bit.. strange?

For a moment there, I was getting ready to empty out my bank accounts and liquidate my 401K in order to take the role of Batroc the Leaper, a part I was born to play, in the Avengers.

Note that Joss wrote the movie but isn't directing it. Between The Avengers and Much Ado About Nothing, he does still have to sleep once in a while. I think.

Funny, I was just reading about Hal Hartley's Kickstarter campaign which seems related, because of Ms. Shelley (alas), as well as the brave new world of film creation/financing. At any rate: personal synchronicity.

They are doing something similar for the next Wheel of Time book too.

Doesn't really sound like a good deal:
"Note: The scene(s)/shot(s) may be cut during editing of the final film at the discretion of the director."

Also listed in the auctions for the charity is LUNCH WITH JON HAMM. Which is strangely going for less than lunch with Mark Cuban right now.
Alas, I will have to settle for re-watching Trust, and backing Hal Hartley's kickstarter. Thanks for that dirtdirt!

To be fair, a director would be an idiot to promise that any given scene or shot in his movie would under no circumstances be cut.

On a totally unrelated note, I think the best part of being a film director would be getting to make those directorly hand motions like Joss is making in the photo on the auction page.
