This post was deleted for the following reason: This is not so much a neat thing on the web as an event announcement - if you can find some articles *about* the event, before or after the fact, and make a fuller post about it, go for it, but this won't really do. -- restless_nomad

Some veterans have said this is disrespectful to fellow veterans. maybe it is, I don't agree with that but maybe. I do think that military medals carry great symbolic significance to those who have them. But any actions that medals are awarded for don't cease to have existed even if the mementos are discarded. If you don't believe that something is right, then demonstrate that in any way that you feel.

I was young when I joined the U.S. Army, and while I have always been an intelligent and aware person I wasn't particularly anti-war or anti-military. I became more so as my service wore on. When I was in my hometown I took every medal I ever earned and left them all at the moving wall with a simple note: "you deserve these more than I do." I've never regretted it for a moment.

IvoShandor - wow, I didn't expect a comment from someone with such a personal tie to the situation.

I think their action (and yours) is extremely brave and thoughtful, to me at least.
