"The whole universe is in a glass of wine."

Sometimes I feel like the entire purpose of the Internet is to remove the option of saying "No" when we ask ourselves "Why not?"

This is not always a good thing, but on balance, I'll take it.

How do you even start figuring something like that out?
Well done, at any rate.

I tried to explain what was happening to my daughter by doing a simple demonstration with one, untuned wine glass.

I failed! This is hard!

Best my friends and I could ever do was the Jaws theme. It's only two notes and we mostly failed.

OK so I notice that this video has Japanese language words on it, which makes me realize that, probably, HP is as popular in Japan as it is over here.

Which suddenly sparks my curiosity: Are there foreign films in the line of HP, LoTR, etc., that I have never heard of, but actually have huge fan bases and are considered to be very high quality etc?

I don't know if you've heard if it, but the Dozor trilogy from Russia may qualify. Expensive fantasy action trilogy based on a hit book series.

The director, Timur Bekmambetov, went on to make Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in Hollywood.

I don't think you have to. My understanding is that you basically make a keyboard out of glasses that are all tuned to pitches, and then if you can read music, just, you know, play it on the wine glasses instead of keys.

I love this stuff, though. Reminds me of this classic that will stick with me forever, because of the added variable of literal velocity!

The entire side panel of suggested videos are Harry Potter themed. Mostly behind-the-scenes footage. There goes my whole afternoon.

I love that theme. It's kind of spooky and anticipatory and it makes me want to bring my shoulders up to my ears whenever I hear it.

The short answer is no: there's nowhere other than Hollywood where a billion dollars is spent to make a fantasy film series. Usually that kind of stuff is animated.

I watched the video thinking "I have no idea what the Harry Potter theme sounds like. I wonder if it has secretly wormed its way into my ear anyway."

Turns out yes.

Ugh, the girl who lived in the dorm room next to me had the HP theme as her alarm clock. It was a dorm of new construction, with relatively thin walls. One awful weekend, she went home for the weekend and forgot to turn off her alarm. "Da dum de de dum de dum dum dum de de dum de dum.... Da dum de de dum de dum dum dum de de dum de dum.... Da dum de de dum de dum dum dum de de dum de dum.... Da dum de de dum de dum dum dum de de dum de dum...." over and over and over.

One of the greatest experiences of my entire life was going with my mom when I was a wee teenager to see the midnight premiere of Sorcerer's Stone when it came out. My mom and I were excited to begin with, as we were big HP fans in general, but when that theme song started playing at the very beginning of the movie, my mom did this thing where she simultaneously grabbed my hand and my head with hers and like squeezed as she danced in her seat. The unadulterated look of pleasure and joy on her face was just too much. She was like a big kid -- and my mom is pretty reserved sometimes. I will never not be able to think of that moment of happiness now upon hearing the HP theme... And I am so glad because of it.
