Special effects legend Carlo Rambaldi, most famous as the creator of E.T. and the titular creature in Alien, has died at the age of 86. Here is a montage of his work.

Cool stuff. I'm firmly of the belief that good models and makeup and prosthetics work better than CGI, although I'm less firm with each passing year...

In certain cases, yeah. They're tools and have different strengths and weaknesses depending on the situation. I think people have leaned too much on digital in general, but there's a sweet spot to be found.

(Also, Rejected ET Pitch. Some monsters hate ET. I have always loved the film, and the fact I have a DVD with walkie-talkies instead of guns saddens me more than it should).
