If you don't like memes, you're gonna have a bad time.

I recognize about 90% of these clips but only about 10% of them as memes. I think I must be doing it right.

Some of them are only "memes" in the sense that a still image from the clip gets used a lot in other contexts (Capt. Picard's "WTF is this shit" photo, the guy with the crazy hair etc.). It's a somewhat miscellaneous collection.

I blame MetaFilter for introducing me to Reddit.
It was mildly interesting to see the context for the sources I wasn't familiar with. Mildly.

The only one I didn't recognize was the tampon one at 1:20 - I recognize the actor but not the movie or the meme.

BlueHorse:Many of them are actually image macros and aren't really meant to be funny in and of themselves but rather are meant to convey a certain thought in a medium where images are the main way to communicate (image boards).

Kenyatta Cheese has an interesting blog post up about gifs:
I can’t help but look at all of this and see a parallel to George Orwell’s concept of ‘Newspeak’. Remember the fictional language from the novel 1984? That was a version of English where the vocabulary and language was reduced for the purpose of narrowing the range of accepted thought. While I don’t see anything sinister in the move from particular emotions to #feels, I do wonder what will come in to widen the paradigm again.
