Fugazi Edits

It’s a fierce object, many-layered yet taut as could be. It’s a dense field made of raw materials so rarefied that even in combination the resulting effect is singular, tensile. The album in question is Fugazi Edits, for which Chris Lawhorn took the extensive discography of the hardcore band Fugazi and combined multiple songs into new hybrid compositions.
Considering that Fugazi is already a distillation of three of DC's most important hardcore bands (Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, and Dag Nasty), this is like meta-harDCore-roux.

Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, and Dag Nasty
No one in Fugazi is ex-Dag Nasty, though the two bands are connected - Colin Sears spent a few months in an early incarnation of Fugazi that did not play out or record, and Peter Cortner was in Joe Lally's pre-Fugazi band Lunchbox.
And since I'm already deep in harDCore pedantry, I'll also point out that Rites of Spring morphed into Happy Go Licky immediately before Fugazi - though they didn't exist for that long, it always struck me as much closer in look and sound to where Fugazi ended up than RoS.

Yeah, you know? I didn't really enjoy it all that much.

Meaning???
Meaning this: Fugazi wrote some of the catchiest songs of all time. I almost wrote 'post-punk songs' but really, the fact that everyone from the deepest experimentalist to bands like Maroon 5 cite them, means that their song writing was attractive beyond any particular label. However, they also wrote songs where there were deep layers of meaning imbued in every word and every break, and every angry yell.
The fact that you can pull some of the more attractive moments from those songs and repackage them speaks well of your ear, but not much else. You have refined the sugar from a complicated fruit and made it into twinkies. Good for you.
Now how about you produce something that at least hints toward that depth.
