BBC's Letter From America archives replenished by Newquay man. Most not kept by the BBC. Amazing piece of radio in and of itself. [previously].

Any time archives are found of something that had been assumed to be lost, my heart swells up a little bit.

Also, I was just tickled by "Roy's wife Doris's cousin heard our appeal, and put us in touch." Human networks are just awesome, aren't they?

This is a massive violation of copyright. The fines should prove staggering.

This happens all the time and I do my best to facilitate as much of it as possible.

Listening to Cooke's "Letter from America", as an American, was always both a weird and warming experience. I suppose hearing oneself described to oneself tends to be a little weird, but it never felt alienating. Even if he did it out of a sense of courtesy towards his host country, he seemed always to be more optimistic about America than Americans are.

We have got to search all those bungalows in Cornwall. We might find Aristotle's second volume of the Poetics.

I particularly love how much he is delighted by Cooke on rehearing a tape from '86. The dust in my room seemed to escalate when he read the letter from Cooke's daughter in which she thanked him 'for loving someone who I loved so much'.
