It's sad to see the Youtube comments about him being a nerd. I was telling my husband how proud I am of our son who is super sweet (we call him the polite police) and just awesome but he's the smallest kid in the class. I worry as he moves on to other grades the whole "nerd, shorty, etc." comments. Such a shame that shit can't stop.

"White Boy" seems to be his handle, not a description.

That's part of Andrew's moniker. The other part is "boy".

And no mic tricks !
That's a big part of why I posted this here. Kid's just sitting at a school desk. No mic*. Doesn't need one. Sounds fantastic.
*Not that I'm anti-mic or anything. I've been very impressed over the years with what the beatboxers are doing with mics.

That is stupid. They should be using drill bits and appropriate tools for boring, not violins.

Take some comfort in knowing that all children go through this to some degree, and it helps them figure out their identity (that is, what's important to them versus what isn't.) It sucks, of course, but it is part of life, as much as it's a part of life that you (his parents) will tell him when his behavior/dress/manners/etc. are inappropriate.
Plus, if he's as sweet as you say, he'll have friends soon enough. I grew up with a lot of kids who weren't tough and weren't tall, but everyone loved 'em because they were sweet and charming and also didn't put up with abuse. If he's strong, and you reinforce that it is okay for him to stand up for himself, he'll be okay.

Oh, and regarding the kid in this video, look at the other kids around him; YouTube commenters can say what they want, but he looks like his peers. Sooner or later he'll have a wake-up call (perhaps the YouTube comments!) or a peer will get involved, or he will (like I did) reach out to older kids I knew for advice before entering high school, and will get a handle on how to develop a personal style. Especially if he's surrounded by other kids who dig what he does, as he obviously is (if the grins on the faces of the girl and boy on either side are any indication.)

Kid's got skills. The glasses, striped shirt, and something written on his arm (set list?) really sell the whole White Boy persona. I love how the other kids in the room are first all eye-rolling like oh the nerdy kid is acting up again, and then he's totally sold them and they're all giggling with him. Also I love how he has to stop for a breath about 1 minute in.

Based on the reaction of the kids around him, I'm definitely not getting a "nerdy outcast" vibe. More "skinny class clown." I don't think he needs help developing a personal style; he's already there. Good for him.

I'm put in mind of Dan Savage's repeated advice to over-eager adolescents: first work on being awesome. Guy's way ahead of the posse.

I'm probably getting on old enough to be his gramma even but boy do I have a crush on the kid. Reminds me of every other crush I ever had in primary school.

Thanks Davejay. I'm told by his teachers he's tiny but mighty and takes zero shit from anyone. I just know how it can be psychologically if you're not strong. I'm glad to see he can do it.
