If The Onion is having its fictional characters do Reddit AMAs, one or both of those sites has jumped the shark. (Although I DO have a few questions for "Local Man")
That said, join the club. I did.

Julian Assange and Joe Biden got into a major flame war on Usenet back in the early 90s. Things got personal, then escalated when Jullian hacked Joe's .plan file to include a ASCII animation showing him blowing a goat. Personally I blame the unix admin for not setting up permission on home directories correctly.

I'd like to see Reddit actually jump the shark by having Henry Winkler do an AMA entirely in the character of The Fonz.

That's nothing compared to how hilariously cute it was when Jill Biden inadvertently told a dick joke about him in front of a crowd.

In that regard, I look at them the same way I look at web hosts who really strongly believe in free speech. If you really stand for stuff like that, you're going to find yourself serving and defending a lot of scoundrels.
Of course, they eventually backed down.

Diamond Joe, cruising for chicks on Reddit
Going fishing for dates is the wrong metaphor. It's not as though he has to try to attract people. He's got enough raw sexual magnetism that something analogous to gravitational collapse has taken place. At this point his event horizon extends several kilometers beyond his own body. People who approach closer than that are drawn in, never to escape. Why would they want to?

I can't respect Reddit after learning about that.
It's sort of a microcosm of the internet, though- anyone can make a subreddit for anything, so it's not like days of yore when an admin would actually manually set up new forums. Reddit's a walled city that allows pretty much anything that's on the greater internet. I find it useful for keeping up on some odd cares and niche hobbies I have, and it's replaced my RSS as my newsfeed of choice.
As far as quality content goes, the upvote/downvote system caters to impulse and instant gratification. The only method I've ever seen that works is the modest one-time paywall method used here and on Something Awful.
