Perhaps this is strange, but that's probably the most heartfelt "." I've ever posted here. So much sorrow. :-(

Watts is a very good writer of eulogies. I wish that wasn't borne out by lots of evidence.

"I may never understand the contradiction inherent in that life: his unshakeable devotion to a community which, for all its strident insistence that God Is Love, never let him feel safe enough to be who he was."

So sad - a eulogy for his life as well as his passing.

Peter's partner Caitlin Sweet wrote her own piece about Ronald Watts. Peter linked to it at the bottom of his original post a few hours after this went live.

I normally hate Mefi eulogy posts. Bunch of witless fanboys (of either gender) dropping the dot for some narcissistic fuckwit who did nothing more than enrich themself doing the thing they love.

If they were all life this one, I'd feel very, very different about them. Great post.

Peter Watts is a truly remarkable human being and I can't finish reading this because I'm not ready to break down into sobbing yet. I will come back to it soon, though.

Watts is a very good writer of eulogies.

He's had a lot of practice over the last few years for immediate family (and beloved cats), which is pretty horrible. This is an amazing piece of writing. Not all of them have summed up a difficult life with so much fondness, though. Life in that family seems to have been complicated.

This just makes me sad, especially Caitlin's piece.

Poor guy. I'm not a fan of reincarnation, but I hope that dude gets reborn in a better place and time to make up for this shit life.
