Yep, I did that once. Really fun, left me with a headache. The sense of freedom was awesome, but I think I opened a subspace channel to V'ger.

If you like those (and I do!), you should also check out Arthur Ganson's machines.

Also, kinetic artist (and my former coworker) Joseph Herscher was just on Sesame Street teaching muppets about how to make Rube Goldberg machines.
