I have learned a thing about the Canadian PM and Quebecois French. Ensemble, ils forment l'humour.

Liquid consonants are always kinda tricksy, but the vast majority of those "elections" sound like "election" to my ear. I heard a couple of "erections" poke through here and there, but not quite enough to live up to the initial promise.

That's what she said.

Anyway, I heard a few ambiguous pronunciations, but it seems that it's a more common error to fail badly on rolling the R than to place a rolled R where it shouldn't be.

Love the site. Am already nostalgic for the potholes.

Love the site.

Err, going through it a little more, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

"Do you want this erection?"

Baaaaahahaha.

I'd rather not make fun of someone about their pronunciation. No-one is perfect in that regard, except snobs.

I'd rather criticize the P.M. about his various odious policies, which have resulted in Canada plummeting from #1 to #11 in the UN Human Development Index.

(But his lips do look kinda funny.)

Didja hear the one about Parks Canada's many-years negotiations with the New Brunswick provincial government to turn Sable Island into a park, and how the Harper Government hijacked the press announcement and ceremony? Eliminating virtually all mention of Parks Canada, relegating Parks Canada spokespeople to the audience instead of centre stage, and substituting tory talking heads in their place?

Yeah. Fuck the Harper government. They are a collection of shameless assholes.

more outrageous Harperism: Federal librarians fear being ‘muzzled’ under new code of conduct that stresses ‘duty of loyalty’ to the government

ah, fuck. I would like to have a more thoughtful reaction, but just... what a pathetic fucking twerp Harper is.

Wait, that means that federal librarians still exist!

Here we go, re: Sable Island.

I don't like Harper as a Prime Minister or as a person but I hate to see him ridiculed for his French pronunciation. I know I could lighten up but there it is.

He needs a pronunciation coach--He sounds like he's speaking Italian, not Quebecois French.

I'm sure things will change once Justin Trudeau is leader of the Federal Librarians.

To follow up on five fresh fish's Sable Island point- the Toronto Star published an editorial today on Harper's muzzling of government scientists. Also relevant, on the op-ed page is a piece about how Canada's score on the UN's indices of human developement have been falling. Of course, Harper isn't solely to blame for this, but it's gotten worse under his watch and it's not clear that he cares. Remember Jason Kenny ridiculing and belittling the UN report on access to food in Canada?

I've been thinking about why this video bothers me so much. I know it's just a bit of fun and it's cool that people like the joke. I think I react negatively because it reminds me that in this country, the government seems to be something to ignore, or ridicule, or observe from a distance. Not something to take seriously as a major shaping force in our country. Harper and the gang seem to do whatever they want and rely on our complacency so it can just fly under the radar, letting them keep their 30-whatever percent support they need for a majority.
