And still another cat lover in still another genre. (That is one of the last pictures Neil Gaiman took of him and Zoe, a favorite cat whom he eulogized in his blog.

Is this where we drop off pictures of artists with cats?
There was this previous metafilter post featuring Leonor Fini and it includes pictures of her with her cat. Then of course there is the art work featuring cats.
Remedios Varo with her cat. Art work featuring cats here, here and here.
Why no love for artists with their dogs?

Artists spend a lot of time by themselves.
Artists live in wonderful/shitty buildings that tend to have mice.

Wow gee thanks Flavorwire. Classy as fuck."
Actually that pic was my favorite. Perhaps they could have phrased the link differently, but I'm glad it was there.

Artists tend to have cats.
Yes, but, a dog is less likely to jump on a shelf of freshly thrown pots/put his nose in the middle of your painting to see what you're up to/pee on your photographic backdrops to teach you a lesson.
Ergo: Many artists prefer dogs.
But if you're in a profession that encourages deep self-introspection and self-criticism and which tends to include long periods of unemployment and poverty, one may safely say: Many artists need pets to keep them sane.

That Frida Kahlo photo is shopped.
When she was 18 Kahlo was impaled by a steel handrail, which went into her hip and came out the other side. She suffered several serious injuries as a result, including fractures in her spine and pelvis.
Following the accident, Frida would go on to have more than thirty surgeries.
In childhod she suffered from Polio which one leg thinner that the other.

Thanks for the link Adam Vasco. I was kinda astonished when I saw Kahlo's nude, asking myself how she could have had no scars, despite having suffered horrific injuries in her youth. However, I think that without further evidence, attributing the 'shopping to racism and misogyny is entirely unmerited
