Six-second long stop-motion videos from Ian Padgham

Vine is a smartphone app that makes up to six-second long clips that play back on a loop, which might not seem like enough to do much more than capture odd little moments. But Ian Padgham has elevated the format to an art, with a wooden figure animated in stop-motion, animated "postcards" of famous places, art in the making and moving art, and comedy on loop. And to answer the question, "how the heck did you do that?", Ian has a few helpful tutorial videos. (via)
I'm totally behind the curve. Tribeca already has a #6SECFILMS category, with six winners selected from over 400 submissions. Some are just so-so, IMO.
I'm a sucker for stop-motion LEGO animations.

Jack Dorsey recently climbed the San Francisco Bay Bridge and documented the climb in a series of six second videos.

I think this guy may be the current king of Vine.

Very cool...
Oh, and parents, you should know that your children and your children's friends are as we speak using vine to post videos of themselves getting up to all manner of crazy antics in their pajamas and bathing suits, and they're probably using their real first and last names. Just FYI.

Adam Goldberg is making tiny absurdist films on Vine.

I see a lot of inspiration from the "classic" (well, they've been around since 2008) 5 Second Films. If you want to see what can be done in a few seconds, 5 Second Films are teensy masterclasses.

man and here I thought I was being clever doing a vaguely obscene four-drawing "animation" with vine this morning.

Maybe it's already in there but Will Sasso's lemon compilation is one of those things I fire up every now and then and cackle like a lunatic over.

I wish Android had vine.
I have two stop-motion apps on my phone that work really well. The first time I used them, I said "So people used to talk to each other on these things. How odd."

"My dad is such a loser"
The thing that is so impressive with Vine is there is no fancy editing software. It's all "in camera" editing with the record button.

My favorite way to consume Vine videos is through Vinepeek, which is a constant stream of whatever was just posted to Vine (posted on the Blue not too long ago). The randomness and complete lack of context makes even the most mundane videos interesting (and, if not, they're gone in 6 seconds anyway).

Combining Vine videos and uploading them to Youtube kind of strikes me as missing the point.
