Carpets For Airports [spacey sound on load] | Hugh Dancy is one of the contributors. -via-
In 2009 Dancy was expelled from an airport lounge in Boston, Massachusetts after a security guard misinterpreted his bizarre fascination with carpets.
He adds, "You just walk around (looking at the ground) until you find a good piece of carpet... You get some odd looks... It's kind of obsessional.

I had a coworker whose sister was an account manager for a company that sold carpeting to big-time institutions with big-time carpeting needs. I met the coworker's sister when we were all in Hawaii at the same time on business. I asked if there were institutional carpeting trends, and she said, "Oh yeah, definitely." I forget what the trends were (honestly they were kind of boring), but apparently there are BIG differences between certain carpets.
Later that night I saw a middle-aged woman desperately pleading with the police not to arrest her after she was caught smoking marijuana on the beach. Ever since then I have associated institutional carpet design trends with America's horribly misguided drug war. I guess when you're reminded of something terrible, sometimes it's easier to think "loud airport carpets" instead of "sad consequences for troubled humans".

A glue-down pile with a quick release backing and an integral pad is recommended for high traffic installs...

Hugh Dancy is one of the contributors.
I really hope that every one of his contributions list out the patterns on the carpet and then ends with "This is my design."

Yeah, that makes sense; the brother is a partner in an awesome travel company with a good friend of mine.
