Welcome to Fhloston Paradise (among other places)

In the mood for some ginormous LEGO dioramas from beloved films? Of course you are! Besides the usual suspects of Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Batman, there are some equally impressive projects to be found based on Logan's Run, The Fifth Element, 300, Mothra, and even The Wizard of Oz.

I love these. I'm almost as impressed with the creativity going into creating some of the "custom" minifigs (I'm pretty sure the Scarecrow's face is some kind of Halloween monster) as I am with the actual dioramas.

Fhloston Paradise must the most beautiful concert hall of all the universe. A perfect replica of the old opera house of ... who cares.

Ooooooh. I wonder how many of these might be at BrickCon in October?

The photographs of the Logan's Run layout are beautiful.

Hear, hear, asnider. Are the Lego actors modified from existing Lego guys? Is it possible to 3D print them to your liking?

Also, in the Fifth Element set, I noticed that the paintings here are actually the main characters from Order of the Stick.

From what I can tell, they are from existing minifigs. One of the great things about LEGO's Collectible Minifigures line is a great expansion in minifig headgear and costumes. It's from there that you get the sailors for the "Fifth Element" project and the Roman soldiers for the "300" project, just to site two examples.

Hell yes. Those hexagonal leafy terraces and minifig crowds are amazing.

But where's Carousel?

As far as I can tell, yes. The only ones I'm not sure about are the Mangalores from the Fifth Element series. Their heads and weapons are likely custom made, and even their bodies look like they might be a custom paint job.

The Mangalore heads are from the "Alien Conquest" series LEGO did a couple years ago.

But you may be right about the Mangalore weapons. Those might be custom from Brickarms.

I love all of these. That said, one of the Helm's Deep shots shows the unfortunate consequences of not having enough minifigs to fully evoke the source material. In the movie, ten thousand orcs move shoulder-to-shoulder in a seething mass towards the walls of the besieged keep; in Legoland, it is a platoon of them in loose formation.

This one might be more to your liking.
