Actually, it was a fanfic-writing friend of mine who told me about this whole thing. He got an enormous kick out of all this stuff. (And also linked me to all things pertaining to Mina de Malfois. I occasionally re-read Mina de Malfois when I need cheering up.)

I don't begrudge anyone who hasn't actually read "My Immortal", but don't worry, it won't annoy anyone to have people mock it - it's a parody. It's well done enough that people who have read it will argue over this, but there are tell tale signs (for instance, the misspellings getting worse as the story progresses).

Truly it is a glorious occasion that it has been committed to film as it is once of the great narratives of our time.

This, however, is a self-awarely "bad" parody so I will enjoy it in the spirit that is was intended. #idontevengohere

Have we ever gotten anyone taking credit for My Immortal as a parody? I mean, I agree with capricorn and The Whelk that it (almost) certainly has to be, but if the person behind has kept quiet for this long, that's almost as impressive. I think the Doom: Repercussions of Evil / Half-Life: Full Life Consequences guy held out for like 5 years before admitting that yeah, he'd done it as a joke. At this point, Ebony Darkness has surpassed him by quite a lot.

sorry, now KYM is telling me that Half-Life: Full Life Consequences was someone else and the Half-Life fanfic I was thinking of by Peter Chimaera was called QuarterLife: Halfway to Destruction. The first one is the one with Gordon Freeman's long-lost brother, the second one is the one that shows one of the most profoundly hilarious "failed" understandings of nuclear physics ever with the line "UI have discovered new radoactive isatope but it is so vollatile that it does not have a half-life but quarter-life so we must observe with hasty"

I get the feeling that it's of vast comfort to them, because they can look at it and say, well, I'm not even in the ballpark of that bad. If it didn't exist, someone would have had to create it.
