Degrassi Panthers "Degrassi Panthers is a blog dedicated to mapping out the shoot locations of all 3 seasons of the Canadian TV series Degrassi Junior High."
There was once a tag on here called "magnificentobsession" I believe, and it was just perfect for this sort tumblr (or course this is a tumblr)

Had a brief moment where I thought/hoped that this was the "Degrasse Panthers" and they were some sort of amazing astrophysics gang.

I'm really pretty bummed out that the DeGrassi Grocer's gone. (Though it barely featured in DJH, it was a pretty great little landmark.)

I just finished a rewatch of the entire series yesterday*! How timely.
*I skipped School's Out because I was sad about Wheels after hearing about what happened to the actor, but I figure it counts anyway.

I used to live on DeGrassi St. I cursed the house that replaced the grocery every time I passed it.

"Why?" I naively thought, thinking nothing could be more depressing than what is on screen in "School's Out" **goggles** Damn.

Yeah. I know. Years ago, the first time I watched Degrassi straight through, I desperately wanted Wheels' plotline to go better. Every episode centered upon him would end in an upbeat wa, with some flash of hope--then disaster again. On second watch, I really came to see how the entire series was Wheels' story. It's incredibly compelling, how there's no good answer for who is at fault--whether Derek or his grandparents. But you still want absolution for him, you still want things to end up okay. Knowing that they weren't for the actor, too, was just too much for me.
I did watch the episode of Degrassi:TNG where he appeared, and was glad there was some closure to his narrative. But cold comfort, really. In real life, as in Degrassi, there are some stories with no happy endings.

That is why, as a kid, I loved it. Even when Shane was in it.
It was truer to life than, say, Wonder Years or, you know, Beverley Hills 90210.

13 years ago my wife and I moved to Leslieville. This was juuuust before it got trendy and she was reluctant at first to move that far away from downtown, so one of the things I used to sell the area was the plethora of Degrassi locations scattered around the neighbourhood.

That is what makes Degrassi the perfect tween/teen franchise. At no point in your life are you ever going to be more susceptible to its "life is a miserable slog with semi-occasional bursts of unbridled joy" worldview. You might feel that was as an adult as well, but most adults aren't going to actively seek out entertainment that makes you feel that way.
(And I say this as someone who has enjoyed each incarnation of the franchise at one time or another.)
