Theory: Long day full of activities. "If you're good, we'll get ice cream later!" Kid is good, kid is tired, kid gets ice cream, this happens. Parents film & laugh.

I think Mizu has it. I suspect every parent has either a photo or video of their child/children doing much the same as this.

i can't decide whether this is adorable or unsettling. It's adorable... it would be unsettling if they weren't sitting up, and thus unlikely to choke or drown in ice cream.

I just realized what I'm recognizing here. They've lost all higher-level mental faculties, all that's left is the knowledge that they need to feeeeed.
I'm not even kidding, this is that weird sleepwalking/Ambien thing, where you'd assume that someone would need to be conscious to realize that (for example) the ice cream will melt if they don't eat it right away.
But it turns out that our primate brains can understand that perfectly well, and you wonder when they'll realize they don't actually need us.

Team adorable. And yeah, the videos reminded me a lot of the way my kids would nurse while asleep/falling asleep. Babies are no stranger to the eating while sleeping thing, and some of these kids are not so far from babyhood. I don't think it is that big of a stretch to sub in a delicious ice cream cone and have the same kind of thing happen.

When my son was a young toddler, this happened a lot. And it was always cute and hilarious. And I took video whenever possible.
