Documentaries and talks from the USC US-China Center

The University of Southern California's US-China Institute has a huge number of videos on YouTube regarding China, Taiwan, history, global diplomacy, etc.

The Assignment: China series from Mike Chinoy (who used to work for CNN):
  • The Chinese Civil War, detailing modern Chinese history and the KMT/CCP split before and after World War II.
  • The Week That Changed the World, about Nixon's visit to China in 1972 and how it affected modern US-China relations.
  • Opening Up, about how China has reformed and opened up since the era of Deng Xiaping.
The Pivot, regarding shifting US strategic priorities regarding China.
The Thaw: Taiwan and China's Changing Relationship, part 1. Part 2.
The South China Sea: Troubled Waters, about rival claims to the South China Sea, including China's.

The US-China Institute's YouTube channel also includes videos of lots and lots of speakers, discussing everything from press coverage of the recent Xi-Obama summit in California to China's recent Nobel prize recipients to a motorcycle journey across China.

Within the past couple days, the Institute also uploaded a new series of talks regarding Asia Pacific relations.

Thanks. This is great for when I need to scratch my history itch. I really don't know that much about the history of China beyond the very basics.
