I love Mimicking Birds. I also like their songs The Loop (that specific version) and New Doomsdays.

I'd never heard of Until the Ribbon Breaks, but Perspective, with Homeboy Sandman is great. The Nas sample is nice.. Also, Vince Staples is the man. "Nate" bangs. He has a Bandcamp page. Versace Rap and Hostile are decent tracks. Thanks for this post. I needed some new jams!

Last year's mix had some great stuff (You Won't was probably my favorite find) so I've been looking forward to this. Thanks!

If you want more music:
* there's an unofficial torrent from the usual location with 783 songs in it, from Showcasing artists. It's smaller than usual, because SXSW started using Soundcloud and Youtube instead of hosting their own mp3s.
* someone's posted a larger torrent to Pirate Bay (porny, NSFW ads, btw) that included the songs from Soundcloud and Youtube. This has 1222 songs. They didn't bother putting the band names in the filenames, and sometimes skipped the song title too; I gathered that information.
* in mid-January, I made a pass over the music I could find on the site, and made a Spotify playlist of my favorites. This seems to work intermittently, because that's how Spotify rolls. If you liked my Mefi Music song-a-day podcast (currently on hiatus), you might like this.

My label-mate, and fellow Mefite, Permanent is gonna be out at SXSW. He's pretty much a lurker, but here's something he posted on Metafilter Music.

Well, good for NPR for including Windhand in this list. A little bit of Electric Wizard style metal never hurt no one.

I miss Paul Ford's six word reviews of every song in the official torrent.

There's way too many mustaches.
Why are there so many mustaches?
The brochure said there would only be a few mustaches. This is a terrible vacation!
