Lucky there's a Family Guy... who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Gah... I keep wanting them to linger on each one more often. Naturally my favorites get barely a mention.

I wish that whoever titled the video understood that this isn't a mashup but a medley.

No Speed Racer? No Jonny Quest?

Still fun though.

Awww, all the little animations were super charming. Also, the wash of joy and nostalgia I felt at #36-37 made me realize that I perhaps have stronger feelings about Animaniacs and Tiny Toons than I had perhaps realized, but man, so many memorable great cartoon moments from those shows!

Glad to see Rocco in there, and the Animaniacs-to-Tiny Toons segue was a highlight, but going back to the REALLY early days of TV toons, it needed some Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley DoRight, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Astroboy, Popeye, Mighty Mouse and The Bugs Bunny Show ("This Is It").

Surely the word is "medley".

They did do Bugs Bunny, in the sense of ending on the Looney Tunes closing theme.

I call foul on the one for Peanuts, in which they played Linus & Lucy, which, while iconic, is not a theme song.

I'm surprised they squeezed Evangelion and South Park in there, but not as surprised as I was to see they also did Bobby's World, of all things, which was an afternoon cartoon on Fox Kids based on Howie Mandel's "Bobby" stand-up character, back before he shaved his head and started hosting ridiculous game shows.

(Note regarding previous: I went to Wikipedia and looked up Howie Mandel. Turns out he's got a paralyzing fear of germs, and he shaved his head because he felt cleaner that way! Poor guy.)

I was extremely surprised at the inclusion of Bobby's World, too. I had completely forgotten that series existed.

I hate this.

I really do.

Let me explain.

I've played in concert bands and wind ensembles for years and years and I can't tell you how many medleys I've played where it was 8 bars of the most lovely ballad cut short with a "haunting" french horn chord before cutting into the next thing.

For example, Disney at the Movies, which is a three-pager with 1/3 of one page filled up with copyright attributions.

Or worse Instant Concert or Can Can You Name These Tunes.

The group I play in now is a community band which is a hell of a lot of fun, but the price is having to suffer through these pieces. At my urging we played Robert Jaeger's 3rd Suite, which is a March in 7/4, a Waltz in 5/4 and a Rondo and is a joy to play: quirky and interesting and the conductor loved it. Our audience - well...just not as accessible.

Which is why The 5 Neat Guys on the People's Global Golden Choice Awards holds a particular joy for me because SCTV got the joke.

As an ex-musician I'm cursed with the ability to link songs that have similar rhythms, melodies, etc. I don't know I'm doing it but I'll start humming a song and then segue in a similar one, and my wife will point it out. In the cartoon vein (sort of):

My Little Pony Cupcake Song = Sherlock theme

"cupcakes, sweet and tasty, cupcakes, don't be too hasty ..."

ba-da, bup bup bup bup bup BAD-DA .... dum da-de-dum da-de-dum da-de-dum da da daaaaaaaaaaaa

It's a sickness.

freecellwizard - do you have kids?

The itsy bitsy spider early in the morning
Down came the rain all in a row
Out came the sun pull the little handle
And the itsy bitsy spider off they go

or

Down by the station went up the water spout
See the little pufferbellies washed the spider out
See the engine driver dried up all the rain
Puff, puff, choo, choo, up the spout again

And of course:

Baa-baa, black sheep, E-F-G
H-I-J-K, three bags full
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond X-Y-Z
Moi je dis que les bonbons
Next time won't you sing with me?
