That's a great routine because you don't really need any products at all. I like her!

Anna Akana is great! Thanks for posting this reply fun and upbeat video. The Mary Sue had it up recently, along with this news: "Akana will be joining Sally Field and New Girl‘s Max Greenfield in Michael Showalter’s Hello, My Name is Doris. The indie comedy, written by Showalter and Laura Terruso, follows Field as Doris, as she attempts to romantically persue her younger co-worker (Greenfield). Akana will feature Akana as a blogger who fascinates Doris."

I think she has that sparkle that might just make her a star beyond YouTube one day.

I have seen this linked practically everywhere and never watched it. I assumed it was a standard how-to makeup tutorial, only maybe more chasing and with a prettier person. But when it turned up on the blue, I belatedly realized there was more to this. Glad I watched this. Thanks.

That should say "charm" rather than "chasing." Autocorrect is weird.

I was not expecting that! That was so great.

Thanks, this was really interesting art. I felt like I was watching someone take slam poetry to a cool and unexpected place/medium.

That reminded me a lot of Laurie Anderson's work. Which of course means that I love it and subscribed to her videos.

Oh OK, I will watch this. When I saw "How to put on your face" posted here I assumed it was some sort of gore / body horror thing.
Oh Metafilter, how you've jaded me.

I thought she was great and had a great message, except for the makeup part.
I realize people have different standards of beauty, but it mystifies me why someone so attractive in the first 15 seconds would do that to herself.
...or did this just go over my head?

You watched to the end where she said that was her on-camera makeup, yes?

Possibly. She is parodying other makeup videos on youtube, to an extent.

Also, if she likes wearing makeup, she can wear makeup. It's not a big deal.
