Shit, it already felt fifty years old when I was watching reruns in the 80s.

Tornado Ocean Vagina would also be a great username, and I might just refer to myself as that in casual conversation from now on.

Do you think Pete Rose ever bet on whether Major League Baseball will lift his ban?

Growing up in Dallas, TX (Irving to be specific) my father had a dry-cleaners. And next door was an old style barber shop that many of the Dallas Cowboys would get their hair cuts at.
I have Alvin Harper, Nate Newton, Emmit Smith, & Michael Irvin autographs on a t-shirt framed and in the basement. It's from their 1992 Superbowl win. That's my little bit of memorabilia and my story. I will never sell this.

Boston fan-wankery aside, Simmons is always at his best when he writes about sports related stuff, not actual sporting events. How meta.

That actually sounds like a helluva lot of fun. I have so many ball cards. I blame Don & Eddie. (So many card games too, but that's more Wizards of the Coast's fault.)

Also those links at the bottom to Part 2, etc.? There are six parts to this, y'all.
I'm glad I noticed, because otherwise I would have missed both of these gems from Simmons:

Those old Topps boxes were my favorite things to collect — they look cool and they’re an incredible ongoing test of willpower (especially when it’s 3 a.m. and you’re drunk).
The complete-uniform market is taking off — an important development for grown men with disposable income who don’t think it’s already strange enough that they’re wearing someone else’s jersey. You want strange? Watch this … I’m putting on the pants too!posted by ob1quixote at 6:38 PM on August 20, 2014
