Robert Bruno labored for decades to build one of America’s most striking houses, but died before he could complete it. Is there a way to preserve his work and legacy?

It could easily be something landed from outer space, the kind of house a James Bond villain might occupy, if he were to put down roots in a nondescript residential development 15 minutes from the drowsy heart of downtown Lubbock.

That is a beautiful house, though obviously wildly impractical. The then/now photos at the very end of the article are great as well.

Lubbock? Amazing to me how the nut can fall so far from the tree. But yet, Jimmie Gilmore was also from Lubbock.

Fantastic article! Both the writing and the photography are terrific. Bruno seems like he was a wonderful, brilliant guy, and ... I'll admit, when I read "striking house" in this post, I expected to hate it, but in fact I absolutely love the house, it's ...hm... aesthetically intriguing.

Looks like a steel hobbit-hole house on stilts. Love it.

Wow. It's kinda like the Winchester Mystery House, except with less guns and ghosts.
