It's less "prank" than "joke", though. It's not like you're supposed to actually be tricked into believing that, for example, the Freee.co.jp accounting service, which used to be usable via a smartphone app, will from now on only be accessible via a coin-operated arcade version.

They went through all that effort and didn't even embed a Konami code easter egg in the page?

Well… yeah. Capcom made Street Fighter, not Konami.

Well, why does he have to choose between the accounting and competitive gaming? There is overlap.
Also, nice controller, though a financial calculator would probably be more appropriate. Or would that be cheating?

I got an email yesterday that had some Street Fighter news in it, and the top link was "Daigo Umehara retires to become accountant". Which, while highly unexpected, didn't seem that implausible. And my silly fangirl heart went "oh god nooooo" until I actually clicked the link and discovered that it was an April Fools joke. I really hate April Fools day. The site is hilarious though, which redeems it somewhat.
Also, be sure to click the little Daigo at the bottom of the page, for a little extra fun.

I got to the bottom, did the shoryuken, and it was amazing omg.
What a great page.
They went through all that effort and didn't even embed a Konami code easter egg in the page?
They put the far more relevant code. ala Capcom.

But more seriously, this is the kind of future we were promised: advertising that we get excited about, that we are enthusiastic to participate in.

It would not be too expensive to commission one. Home arcade enthusiasts build custom sticks all the time, and they show up as a USB keyboard on your system, so just map the number keys to the buttons and the calculator functions to the joystick positions.
I'd bet you could get a nice one built for less than $500 from a person who builds custom MAME setups.

Hell, you could do it for around $100, probably.

Oh, right. It's worth noting that "Shoninken" is a play on "shonin," or 承認, which means "approval"

Perhaps, but I was factoring in commissioning someone to do it for you.

Also, I love that there's an actual (not April fools) drawing to win Umehara's autographs, given that he's famous for having such amazingly poor autographs.
