Texas Monthly is terrific -- I was just debating whether to post their story about why Texas is such a Quidditch powerhouse, which is from the same issue.

Just wait'll he's snagged a gator without realizing, reaches in to grab his catch, and pulls back a stump.

Not all underground pipes accessible by manholes are poop sewers. The kid seems to understand this. The reporter, not so much.

What the fish is swimming in is a moot point anyway, as the intrepid fisherman practices catch and release.
I still say this is smarter than what my friends and I used to do in storm sewers, which is "find where it opens out, and then crawl as far in as you can". Never encountered any fish; just a couple of scraps with some Morlocks now and then.

This isn't really Nowhere, Texas; Katy is an enormous suburb of Houston.
Unless you consider all of Texas nowhere of one kind or another.

Are Crocs actually considered cool by suburban teenagers? In Texas maybe? It's worrisome. It worries me. You see those holes? That's where your dignity drains out...
Though I suppose if I was playing around in the sewer, I'd probably want easily cleaned footwear made of a non-absorbent material too.
