Meet The Indie Newspaper Man Who Documented The East Village In The 1980s

"The Other Paper office’s front door always seemed to be unlocked," he recalls, "and it wasn’t uncommon for some gray-haired hippie, a young performance artist or even a Hells Angel biker to come wandering in past midnight with a citizen’s concern, promotion or request. We were open to them all."

Oddly, the article makes no mention of The East Village Other.

Just in case anyone else is confused: this is not the East Village Other. Both were before my time in NYC, but the one I've linked is the one I (and probably you) had heard of.

On preview: Indeed.

Yeah I meant to link to that as well but I hit post too soon because the building next door to me was suddenly on fire, because my life is fucking ridiculous

And as mentioned in the article, the other other East Village paper, the East Village Eye.

Now, that was not before my time, and in fact I may still have a copy or two kicking around, perhaps used as packing material.

Sorry to hear about your fire-darkened life, poffboff. Hang in there.
