NPR flagstation WNYC's data team is on a quest for the longest possible NYC subway ride. And they suckered Jody Avirgan (538/AskRoulette/UltimateFrisbee) into riding all 11+ hours of it. He's live tweeting the experience, and will also be on WNYC's Brian Lehrer show (which he used to produce) tomorrow to talk about it. Got a question about the NYC subway? Go ahead and tweet him!

I want to know about the smell on the R train. Is that nutsack free range and artisanal?

Related: Amtrak's Writers in Transience program.

The rules seem kinda arbitrary (visit any station as many times as you like, but you may only ride any given segment of track once), but like everything else, one has to draw the line somewhere. Otherwise there'd be no getting off.

If this experiment leads to the accidental and catastrophic discovery of a real-life Midnight Meat Train, I for one won't be even a tiny bit surprised.

I feel like people do this all the time. Fun that someone is livetweeting though.

I used to feel sorry for Jody during WNYC pledge drives when it seemed like he was on-air constantly for a solid week. Compared to that, an 11 hour subway ride must be a piece of cake.

And here's Jody on the field.

You can approximate this experience by taking the G train for any distance.
