Police Report: Hit-Run Suspect Told Friends 'I Hit This White Man' I heard this story last night. This incident happened last October...why did this story take so long to make national news?
Despite the previous discussions...
Because the friend who the woman told only came forward to police on Feb. 25th.

why did this story take so long to make national news?
Hopefully because its only "national" significance is shock value.

The "why" is that nobody except the perpetrator and friends knew the shocking details until this week. In October, he was just a body found in a vacant lot, apparently a hit-run victim. No stunning lapse in our national empathy engine. Nothing to see here, citizen -- move along.
