Psychologist Carol Dweck (previously and previously) looks at how educators are (mis)interpreting her research on growth vs. fixed mindsets, and shares her reflections about what works and what doesn't.
Love the happy face and sad face examples at the end.
But now I've got some work to do working on language arts with my son. Apparently my encouragement falls in the don't category a lot. "I know language arts is hard for you, ..."

The very good BBC podcast, Health Check, did a full episode on this work previously.
I'm a bit cautious about something that fits my preconceptions so nicely. There a psychological themes in learning research that are very popular, but for which the evidence isn't as strong as it might appear, e.g. Learning styles.

I will face my fixed-mindset reactions.
I will permit them to pass over me and through me.
And when they have gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see their path.
Where the fixed-mindset reactions have gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
