Message in a Bottle Cap: The Art of Robson Cezar

"If you are a regular in the pubs around Spitalfields, you may have noticed a man come in to collect bottletops from behind the bar and then leave again with a broad smile, clutching a fat plastic bag of them with as much delight as if he were carrying off a fortune in gold coins. This enigmatic individual with the passion for hoarding bottletops is Brazilian artist and Spitalfields resident Robson Cezar, and he needs to collect thousands because he makes breathtakingly intricate pictures with them." His work reveals the beautiful possibilities of the bottle cap.

Known locally as the King of the Bottletops, he has used his medium to add life and color to his surroundings, and has twice served as artist-in-residence at Spitalfields City Farm (first summer; second summer).

That Sator Square one is great. It's no Picard portrait, though.

You know, in an age when Serious Artists all feel the need to be somber and serious and oh-so-tormented by their passions, and be sure you get their angst-side in the photo, it's really great to see someone who takes such obvious, visceral joy in his work.

I've never been sure of my ability to pronounce Spitalfields, and I've been to England twice.

This art is awesome.

Sometimes a cigar, Sphinx. Pretty much just spittle-fields.
