New Dorp, New York (SLYT) is an animated video from SBTRKT and Ezra Koenig.

SBTRKT is good. This is one of those tracks I tend to play over and over again, like Wildfire before it. It's been showing up in my browser address bar autocomplete at the slightest invitation lately. (Kiiara's Gold, too.)

Liked this video and the song although it is not my typical classic rock listener. As we used to say on American Bandstand, it has a great beat and I like the deep tone of the vocals. I also like the animation and depiction of the SI ferry, the Verrazano Bridge and the view of Manhattan.

New Dorp brings back happy memories of my 20s when my first administrative assistant, a proud New Dorp HS graduate, taught me about work and life in general. I learned more from her than I did in the official training program. She was (or could have been) the working girl from the movie of the same title. Never went to college but was smarter than all of us college grad junior analysts. She was 25 and I was 23. I kept trying to get her to apply to the training program and to aspire high, but in her extreme Staten Island accent kept telling me she did aspire to stuff, just that that was to marry a NYC cop or firefighter and live a nice life near her family on Staten Island. I went on to other things and Joy did go on to marry a firefighter. Not sure what she is doing now, but I envy the fact that she knew what she wanted out of life, pursued it and got it. I, on the other hand, went on to a lucrative career yet am still, in my 50s, trying to figure out what I want out of life.

I guess I am a little off the path of discussing this video, but New Dorp rocks!

I love the casual wordplay in the lyrics. "Gargoyles garglin' oil." I like to think that the song started off as a series of riffs on how fun it is to say "New Dorp."
