Somehow as a kid I misremembered Wonder Woman Releasing Her Amazon Brassiere as FLABADAP. I don't know how that happened, because it's so obviously SNAP PLOOBADOOF.

Doug Gilford's Mad Cover Site is the resource that every publication that's been around as long as MAD Magazine deserves. The incredible index of "Usual Gang of Idiots" contributors is awesome by itself.

Not even close to complete, unless by "soundwords" they mean something more specific than the weird onomatopoeia he used all the time. It doesn't, just for instance, seem to include any of the sounds from the strip about cockroaches.

(The sound of a guy stepping on a board with a bunch of cockroaches hiding under it, if anybody wants to know, is "SQUEEDEEBEEDEEBAP".)

Sorry--it's actually 'squee-bee-dee-bee-dap'. We regret the error.

Nice work.

Missing: From MAD Special #10, 1973
"Blort"
"Dawk"
"Shtoonk"

Incomplete: The bird call / exotic bird from MAD June 1969 goes "PFFFT-FRACK! POP---SPROiNG-GiNG", not simply "POP---SPROiNG-GiNG".

Not that I would know.

Could it be said that if someone were to post a long, complicated list of what is essentially trivial information, there would be someone here who could point out deficiencies in the list? And they would be right?

From Don Martin Forges Ahead, a villain's atomic missile explodes in a most disappointing manner. From a site of tropes (no link):
In a Captain Klutz comic by Don Martin, Mad Scientist Dr. Rotten has his home-made missile blow up in his face, but seems more disappointed with the sound effect it produces: "Wango? After all those years of sweat and toil, my Rotten Atomic Missle goes 'Wango'?!"

Njohnson23, you left "obscure" out of your description.

To this day, I remember that the sound of a resounding blow to the head is KLOON.

Honestly, the poster who called this list "complete" (based on the source where I received it the link but never claimed by the actual site), I could not be happier to be told I was wrong this way.

I confess I am somewhat relieved to know that I am not the only adult human who has permanently committed Don Martin sound effects to long-term memory.

I can actually visualize myself buying, bringing home, and reading the issue with the "PFFFT-FRACK! POP---SPROiNG-GiNG" bird call in it. The shoes I was wearing. What was on the radio.

I also looked for THWAK DOiP! DIT DIT DIT DIT DIT chugga chugga chugga chugga SKLORK and didn't find it -- until I noticed he'd separated the sequence into its segments.

Could it be said that if someone were to post a long, complicated list of what is essentially trivial information, there would be someone here who could point out deficiencies in the list? And they would be right?

And that they would join me in shouting LEGALIZE POTRZEBIE!

Roommate is now convinced beyond any doubt that I have completely flipped out, since I am reading these aloud and chortling away at myself. THWACK! Haha haha....

This excellent cataloging. However, this is also the final data table necessary for Skynet to become sentient.
