Took 'em long enough. They must have been distracted by some brown eyed girl.

Sir Lenny Henry also has a nice ring to it.

Actually, Sir Lenworth sounds even better.

Missed opportunity to redeem the royalty, IMO.

Unusual in that is an upbeat, happy song but in a minor key.

Sure, but whatever happened to Tuesday and So Slow? They aren't even mentioned in the article.

Wikipedia has a pretty good guide to the British honour system.

and, just so we can have something else to talk about other than a once likable little tune about a brown eyed girl that very many have long since grown allergic to ...

Perhaps they're off next to HRH's favourite pub for a nice fry?

When I was a kid somebody told me Sir Van was from Philadelphia and I believed this for years.

I hope Sir Van looked the prince in the eye and said "I can tell by the look on your face you've got ringworm. "

Agreed. He definitely has some gems that you're not likely to hear on the radio. My top pick is T.B. Sheets.

Damn, I was hoping this was Phil Collins. Not for the knighting bit, for the attacked by sword bit.

He could handle a sword attack. Just about any attack, really. He's spent years studying the lessons of the Alamo.

Van Morrison is one of my all-time favorite musicians so I am happy for Sir Van, despite the fact that our relationship has had a few bumps. I've seen him live three times. The first was actually at a concert for The Band at Symphony Hall in Boston - he wasn't on the bill, but turned out to be the warm-up act, a happy surprise until he came on stage. He was totally drunk or stoned and absolutely terrible. I saw him barf off in the wings. Good times! The Band was phenomenally good though.

I was sort of turned off to Van for a number of years after that but he won me back.

The second time, decades later, I saw him at a festival at Amsterdam's Westergasfabriek gasworks. I was alone and waited for hours right in front of the stage, not daring to lose my place to go off to get beer or pee. It paid off, I stood mesmerized for a 2+ hour concert just a few feet in front of him, a giant thrill. He is an impeccable musician, but short on charisma. He played with his back to us for a good part of the show. No matter, he was wonderful. And at the end of the show, he reached down and gave me a handful of songsheets. I was elated until somebody ripped them out of my hands and ran off with them. I still feel irate and vaguely bereft about that when I think about it.

The third time was 6 or 7 years ago in Boston where I paid the absurd price of $100 for my ticket. He had his daughter playing with him, she's in one of the article's photos. This time, no barfing.
