From Television To '10 Cloverfield Lane', A Composer Plays With Surprise - "When a film starts, 'you have anywhere from two to 10 seconds to get the audience's attention', score writer Bear McCreary says. He gained this and other advice from his mentor [Elmer Bernstein: 1,2 (previously)], whom he met by chance." (previously: 1,2)

I've just created a Fanfare for people who want to talk about 10 Cloverfield Lane, because, man, do I want to talk about it.

+1 Million for Bear McCreary music. I first heard about him from watching Battlestar Galactica. Since then, his style and touch is almost palatable upon hearing the first bar or five. Really like his theme for Black Sails.

I heard this interview on NPR and I was honestly shocked that Bear McCreary was so young. Maybe it's the name, but when he was composing for Battlestar Galactica, I had this image in my head of a fiftysomething guy with a beard. But anyway, his music for Battlestar Galactica was pretty amazing and played a big part in the overall feel and emotional impact of that show.

Interesting. Just saw the movie and the sound design of the film is REALLY obvious but it's also REALLY effective. The incidental noises and McCreary's score push and push and push you into the corner. It puts you in the character's heads in a way that a million jump scares and monologues couldn't do.

Another ++ for McCreary's Black Sails theme. Great fun.
