This is something that I did not know that I needed.

I needed this.

All is right in the world with a metal beat.

No, sir, you are my Sunshine, Joey Muha.

These are all surprisingly tight. I too did not know how badly I needed this.

He also has one of the better takes on the Harlem Shake.

If you haven't seen Andy Rehfeldt's YT remixes of various classic tunes ... well, here you go. [backs slowly toward the exit]

Every song is better with a Heavy Metal drummer.

Does he know anything by Wilco, by any chance?

This is also part of why The Dresden Dolls worked so well- Brian Viglione usually plays for punk, industrial, or metal bands.

Holy shit, that should be an FPP in its own right. Less Angry Rage Against the Machine is brilliant!

I think Rehfeldt's Grease song was posted here last year, wasn't it? [...searching...] Yep.

For literally twenty-six years I've been wanting to get people together to do a heavy metal album of Girl Scout camp songs. This would most definitely include Little Rabbit Foo Foo which, frankly, is as inherently a death metal song as one could possibly imagine.

My aunt -- who is only seven years older than me and more like a big sister -- was a dedicated Girl Scout and I assure you that I know all the standard camp songs very well.

It's Rabbit Foo Foo and don't argue with me about this or I will cut you.

Oh man, I love this.

His feet are crazy fast, I'm not sure I've ever seen a drummer work a pedal that fast before.

The sound on that bass drum is a crime, though.

Playin KISS covers, beautiful and stoned

And, okay, maybe Little Rabbit Foo Foo isn't a Girl Scout camp song -- I was't there, man, I can't know -- but Jennifer and I sang that song along with a bunch of other songs that I am sure are camp songs and that's good enough for me. Besides which, a bunch of Girl Scouts gleefully miming a bunny smashing field mice into pulp is just the kind of behavior one expects from Girl Scouts at camp.

"His feet are crazy fast, I'm not sure I've ever seen a drummer work a pedal that fast before."

He is fast, but that's par for the course. When I was first learning to play the stuff I was listening to in 1980 and was reproducing those thirty-second note bass rolls made with RhLhRfLf between toms and bass, I was awed in my mistaken impression that they were all on the bass as RfRfLfLf -- a roll on the bass drum, right? So I practiced and practiced that and learned to do it (not quite fast enough) before someone clued me in. But I benefited from this effort.

To some degree, there's a similar principle at work with the foot and pedal as there is with the hand and stick -- which is that speed is a function of the most efficient, least range of movement and requires with the sticks the right grip and balance of the stick. In the case of the foot and pedal, it has everything to do with the design, weighting, and balance of the pedal that makes this possible. Pedals are so much better designed now than they were thirty years ago.

Ha, second that. I thought Man In The Box(Funk Version) was brilliant, but then I clicked on Judas Priest as a Bossa Nova. So hypnotizingly painful to listen to.

This is cool, but, for me, also proof that one base pedal is enough base pedals.

Well, since this is theoretically about drummers, this seems like the best place to drop this video of a drummer who is at the wrong gig.

RobotVoodooPower: "If you haven't seen Andy Rehfeldt's YT remixes of various classic tunes ... well, here you go . [backs slowly toward the exit]"

If I had my way, every year there would be a MeFi post to Andy Rehfeldt's videos, including links to both his metallification of non-metal stuff and his unmetallizing of metal stuff, fuck the whole "No doubles" policy. Because there will always be new people on MeFi who haven't seen it, and that's just wrong and terrible and must be fixed.

(Why, yes, his Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name (Less Angry Version), Lamb of God - Set to Fail (Smooth Jazz Version), and Metallica - Enter Sandman (Smooth Jazz Version) are now parts of my regular mp3 library, listened to non-ironically as music and not just comedy bits)

Metallica-Enter Sandman (Smooth Jazz Version) has made my day.

And, it's done the impossible: made jazz palpable.

She fell in love

I miss the innocence I've known
