I'm glad that someone has the hard hitting beer journalism beat covered!

Considering I once had a spoiled Bucanero in a bar in Havana that tasted like eggs (it was fully sealed and everything), this isn't a loss. Everyone just drinks Heineken when they are there (bc that's all that's available).

What's the status on Mojitos? Or Cuba Libres for that matter? Also, do you know how you pronounce Banana Daquiri in Cuba? Banana Daquiri.

From comments on a sailing blog that just means an average tuesday. IT will probably be years and the next generation of Castro's in power before the supply chain is tuned and robust. Hmm do either of the Castro brothers have kids/grandkids/great grandkids interested in the dictatorship gig?

Goddammit, Metafliter, enough with the sad stories on a Monday morning. CHRISSAKES.

Heineken? I think I'd rather drink the local water.

Not that it's a good beer but I'm surprised Red Stripe isn't there.

Excuse me sir, these soldiers would like to have a word with you.

Cuba Libre is my favorite Elmore Leonard book. I wish Tarantino had adapted it rather than making Hateful Eight.

Cuba received a record 3.5 million visitors last year... American visitors rose 77 percent to 161,000....

So no, don't blame it on the Yanquis. Not for now, anyway.

Probably a lot of Canadians and Europeans wanting to enjoy one last trip before the Americans show up and ruin everything.

This. My partner and her mom are there right now (I stayed home - with my US place of birth and Canada/US border data sharing I just don't want to risk it). They've been before and wanted one last visit before the Americans take over. And as they booked last minute a lot of the resorts and flights down were already full.

Communism-shaming aside, maybe a little island isn't meant to have so many zillions of people trample through it? Maybe the tourism industry simply isn't sustainable, in any struggling country? Ok I'll shut up so we can all keep enjoying our cruises etc.

I wonder what they do for hops in Cuba. I can't imagine the tropical environment is good for growing.
That Cristal and Bucanero are made by InBev shouldn't surprise me, they are very insipid. But they are also cold from the fridge, which is good.
I think I'll stick with the ludicrous fresh pina coladas, which are also cold and amazing.
