It's halfway through the year so that means it's time for DJ Earworm's Summermash '16!

I'm normally a big fan of DJ Earworm's United State of Pop mixes (And the Pop Danthology mixes), but I must be halfway to being Old, because I don't recognize a single song out of this, for the first time.

There's still hope though, we'll see if any I recognize pop up in the year-end mix.

lol I just started listening to top 40 pop on a regular basis recently (you can just queue up a mix of the top 40 on YouTube every whatever and it is 95% videos) and this is the first time I actually know the songs

Haha CrystalDave I was having the same thought exactly in re: DJ Earworm and feeling old. It's a slow progression of "I know all these songs" to "I know some of these songs" to "Is this what kids today call music?"

I'm still mad about how patronizing Justin Timberlake was at Eurovision when he was there to debut his single. Harrumph.

P.S. There's a song in the top 40 sampling a Portishead track

see if you can find which one

We're all mad about Justin Timberlake.

He knows what he did.

This could easily have been entirely Beyonce.

I watched the video and it kept showing me Beyonce and now I'm watching Lemonade for the eight time because it puts 99% of everything else to shame. (You should watch it too, again if you've only seen it once).

And then you can do some reading.
Because, yeah, it's that good.

I think I liked 2015's pop better than 2016's so far (and this is reminding me how much I can't stand Drake's stupid voice), but "Cake By the Ocean" is just a fun goddamn song. I also really liked "Levels" (not included here). I guess "Me Myself and I" is pretty okay too, but I couldn't sing anything but the hook.

I think this works better than the full-year "United States of Pop mashups. Easier to build a catchy tune out of seven melodies instead of fifteen.

What is the video with the freaky large mask on the dancefloor?

These days you're punished pretty harshly for exploring beyond your existing interests by recommendation algorithms that act like monkeys flinging turds at you because you once looked at a turd as you stepped around it.

FWIW the tracklist is on DJ Earworm's site.
