Day Sixteen So as you ask “Where is your God?”, Michael Brown looks you [in the] eye. He smiles. He says, “Fuck. This. Shit.”

Check out the rest of the month here.

Oh hey, I was looking for an easy place to access each day's post around Day 3, and I couldn't find one so I gave up. Thanks for much!

These posts have been a light in the darkness for me this Advent. The official PCUSA advent calendar I picked up at church had nothing to say about how the world is right now.

Related, from The Jesuit Post: "This Advent, I want to scream and curse. I want to do more than just “rend my garments.” I want to smash s*** with a baseball bat and give it the middle finger when I am done. And I want that to be my Advent prayer."

This is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for posting this.

I like Jesuits, but I really like Honest Angy Ken, S.J.

This feels more right to me than a lot of what I have heard lately in my parish, except when the college priests and Friars fill in for our ailing pastor.

Thanks, I needed this.

This is beautiful and just what this worst-sheep-in-the-flock needed right now. Thank you.

I don’t need you to lecture me. I need freedom. The consequences of this last democratic foray into constitutional revolution had me so concerned that I voted for the queen of the prison industrial complex. At 10pm, while you were shocked, I knew America was just shooting its casual regular.

If you voted for the “Queen of the Prison Industrial Complex” in order to avoid the “casual regular”, perhaps your rage is more melodramatic than you’d like to admit.

Nothing like a little moralizing to go with the self-recrimination and despair.

I'd like to think I'm just responding to the author's own moralizing about Clinton.

Good definition of Christianity done right:

"My God was riding in the back of police van in Baltimore and his back was broken. My God is a black momma whose stomach is in knots every time her son steps out the door. My God was armed with ice tea and skittles when you took him before Pilate to be scourged. My God is writing the word resist on a wall right now in a part of the city you haven’t gentrified yet. My God just got released and has 28 days to do the one thing he hasn’t been able to do since you threw him into this world with nothing to eat but his tears. Be a citizen of the empire. My God has spent 400 years bleeding, being whipped, raped, separated from his family, losing her children, lynched, hunted, singing songs of freedom."

I've been praying imprecatory psalms about Trump lately, because that's just where I'm at, and feeling a little weird about it. Because how smug do you have to be to feel justified praying those at a specific person/movement? But that plea for the powerful to be struck down from their positions before they can do any more evil is exactly how I feel right now.

Anyway, the poem for Day 23 is amazing, and I've been reading it over and over and over and over.

We KNOW that there are storehouses
in the heart of G-d full of everything
of G-d and for G-d’s children
Yet you have set yourself
Without being invited
As a guard to keep the children out

Amen.
