If 60's Were 90's

In 1993, UK music collective Beautiful People released Rilly Groovy [official video], the first single from the electronica/EDM/house album If 60s Were 90s, an album built largely around Jimi Hendrix samples.
The album in full: Comin' To Get You, Get Your Mind Together, If 60's Was 90's (Official video), Stone Crazy, Rilly Groovy (album version), Happiness On The Wind, Sock It To Me, Feel The Heat, The Sea... Eventually.
The full album. [45m]
Bonus remixes: Rilly Groovy (Well Hung Parliament Mix), Rilly Groovy (Astralasia Experience), Rillly Groovy (Ripe Fruity Mix)
Bonus: The album came with a chart showing each track and where the samples were sourced. But no worries, Wikipedia has the same information.

I remember buying this from a CD by mail club ... having grown up on the originals it was sweet to have a danceable remix just as I hit peak clubbing age.

Really @njohnson23? I am a big Hendrix fan but definitely appreciated this. Was listening to Eno's Music for Airports yesterday and this made me think, hmm, if Eno redid Hendrix...

I bought that CD back when it came out. As a lifetime Hendrix fan (saw him 3x in concert) I appreciated it and thought it well done back in the early days of remixes/samples (I think this was early 90s).
I heard that later in the 90s, one of those billionaire guys (?) bought back all the rights to Hendrix' music and gave them to family...and a lot of the archival, studio cuts, and remixes like this were then illegal/couldn't be sold? To this day, some of those old bootleg and remixes are collector items and difficult to find.
Anyway, I always appreciated this mix for what it was...and I still have the original on CD stashed away somewhere....

The stage curtains closed. Jimi's Telecaster rested on a stand in front of the pile of Vox amps. I walked over and brushed my index finger over the open strings twice, thinking, "Now I'll be able to tell people I played Jimi Hendrix's guitar". Then, I looked up. Jimi was standing there. "Great show," I said, reaching out. He shook my hand. "Thanks, man." He walked away. I tried to follow, but Noel Redding, who had fallen into Jimi's train, turned around and noticed me, and pointed. "Who's he?" he asked. Large men seized my arms and I was escorted outside. This happened. (Jimi left so many scraps of recorded music behind, there's no denying that he's an ideal subject for this kind of remix. But I have to agree with njohnson23, that they don't add value. Why not write one's own licks? While one is live and kickin', that is.)

Yeah, I enjoyed this at the time too - nice to get a reminder. The remixes were generally decent - I had a huge soft spot for Astralasia (psychedelic house alter ego of the Magic Mushroom Band's drummer). The Astralasia remix of Voyage 34 by Porcupine Tree is well worth a listen when in the... um... right frame of mind. I went to YouTube to find it to try to link it here, and it seems to be the YouTube equivalent of a Googlewhack. Well worth trying to track down anyway, good stuff all round.
