Revel in the mad piping errrr... foot stompin' rock of The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets' newest opus, "The Dukes of Alhazred". The Lovecraftian-inspired jam-masters have been at it for aeons now (25 years in linear time), and this is their first full length release since 2007's "The Shadow out of Tim".
Highlights include the tragic tale of exploration gone awry: You Fool! Warren is Dead!
An accounting of the concealment of dire secrets and crime most foul: Shhh...
And the swirling epic of a maddened violist driven to a frenzy of otherworldly melody: Erich Zann

Eponhysterical.
I Kickstarted the album, so I've been enjoying it for a few weeks now. Personal fav is The Great Molasses Disaster.
They're doing a show in Vancouver soonish, which I totally can't cross the continent for, but wish I could. Their NecronomiCon performance was just so fun.

See also Keighley-based heavy merchants Arkham Witch, with their determinedly Lovecraft-themed albums I Am Providence (2015) and Legions of the Deep (2012). Recommended if you like that sort of thing. Which, seeing as you're all here, I'm assuming you just might ...

Dukes of Alhazred is a very inspired title and I'd totally watch that show and/or read that book (hint hint cstross). I used to tape trade with Toren back in the day and glad these guys are still doing their thing.

If one is a scholar or fan of traditional seafaring music, one's library is incomplete without the unique compilation The Curious Sea Shanties of Innsmouth, Mass. For further historical insight, please also purchase the accompanying monograph.

The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival were kind enough to include an mp3 of "Shoggoths Away" as a downloadable reward in a recent Kickstarter. Fun song with a delightful coda.

related, toren atkinson of the thickets hosted (with his pals) the (sadly) now-defunct Caustic Soda Podcast ("Hard science for soft people!").
A terrific podcast, some content is still available at the Caustic Soda site.
*everything* is on the internet archive.

e.g.
Dr. Rob joins Joe, Toren, and Kevin to talk about the reason people just can't stop: Addiction! We'll look at the difference between use, abuse, misuse, and dependence, Alexander the Great's murderous alcoholism, "Rat Park", Elvis Presley's prescription drug addiction, and a story of heroin induced copremesis. We'll also talk about the addictiveness of Oreos, a bad Warcraft mother, addiction in Fallout, and select pop culture examples of addiction.posted by j_curiouser at 11:42 AM on February 22, 2017
