For the past 9 summers, FIGMENT, an annual celebration of participatory arts that takes place on Governors Island, New York, has produced an Artist-Designed Minigolf Course that is free and open to the public. This year’s theme is “New York City Has the Beat.” We are fortunate to live, work and play in one of the world’s most musically vibrant cities. This year’s minigolf holes relate to the sounds of the city or its music scene of the past, present or future.

Oh yay! :-)
I have done this in years past on GI because hey, free minigolf. Yeah, the "artist collective" angle means that the obstacles are also trying to be Comments On The Scourge Of Cultural Appropriation or something high-concept, but I find that so long as what you're trying to do is hit a golf ball through something, people don't really so much care whether it's a rotating Wheel Of Political Lobbyists or a windmill, they just wanna try to get the hole in one.

I was reading that the artists have to make them playable and not too frustrating.

This looks awesome but like all things that look even vaguely awesome in New York, does it get obnoxious-levels crowded with the "will wait in line for two hours to be able to instagram this" set of people?

Not in my experience, Windbox. The worst traffic you may encounter is clusters of kids trying to go through it the wrong way.
